Maria Nicholson is the heart and visionary behind The Sageful Life. A proud Filipino-American woman raised with deep cultural values of respect and care for elders, Maria has spent over 35 years in the construction industry, blending her love of design with a deep commitment to creating spaces that support real lives. She is the President of Project Build Construction and Interiors, LLC, a California Licensed General Contractor, and a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist through the National Association of Home Builders.
But her most powerful titles? Daughter, to a mother whose final years inspired a mission. Wife, to a loving partner who shares her purpose. Mother and Grandmother, to a family that fuels her passion for generational legacy.
The Story Behind The Sageful Life
Maria’s journey into advocacy for aging well didn’t begin in a boardroom or business plan. It began at home.
After the passing of her father, Maria invited her mother to live with her family—not as a dependent, but as a core of the household. A gifted cook and tireless nurturer, her mother became the glue that held their multigenerational family together. But as time passed, Maria began to see firsthand the gaps in support for older adults—especially when her mother’s health declined due to kidney disease and later Alzheimer’s.
Her mother’s tragic fall in a care facility became a defining moment.
“I promised myself that no other family should have to experience that kind of loss from something so preventable,” Maria shares. That promise became her calling.
The Sageful Life was born not just from grief, but from love. From the belief that seniors deserve more—more respect, more support, more freedom, and more opportunities to live with dignity and joy.

Maria created The Sageful Life to be more than a podcast. It is a movement, a platform, and a global resource hub for seniors, their families, and caregivers.
Through powerful storytelling, wellness education, practical tools, and aging-in-place guidance, Maria is leading a revolution in how we perceive and prepare for aging. Her voice is bold but compassionate, professional yet personal. She brings decades of experience—professional and deeply human—to her mission of making the world a safer, kinder, and more empowering place to grow older.
